2008 Annual General
Meeting
The North West all Variety Canary Club held
its AGM on Monday 9th February 2008 and it was a tremendous
success, with 22 people attending in what have been difficult
weather conditions over the past week. The Treasurer was able
to report that the club is financially sound and that it was
due to the hard work by committee and club members. We were
able to re-appoint a full committee with 3 new committee members
coming on board. This is a true sign of a successful club
when as we all know that getting people involved is the pain
in any club’s life.
In recognition of the selfless work over a
number of years and being founders of the club, it was proposed
and agreed that the current Chairman Mr Brian Bennett and
his good lady wife Claire should be made Honoury Life Members
of the Club. This honour was also proposed and agreed in respect
of another of the clubs stalwarts and founding member Mr Bill
Cartmell. In the proposal it was stressed that these proposals
were made to ensure that in recognition of the dedication
and commitment their names went in the history journals of
the club.
On the retirement of Bill Cartmell as President
we welcome Colin Turner as our new President and Mark Playforth
as our Vice President
The exciting thing was that local non-members
came to the meeting and signed up – this is a real step
forward for us.
Once the official business was over we received
a presentation from Stuart Mason, he gave us an insight into
the sport of Modern Pentathlon of which he is the Great Britain
Development Manager and then he gave a short presentation
on Border Canaries which was well received.
An excellent buffet supper was provided by
our host the Victoria Hotel and the evening finished with
the opportunity to have a chat amongst friends.
